Joanne Seminara began her journey as a community activist when she successfully led a campaign to secure a new boiler and windows for PS 185, where her children were students. Initially following in her mother’s footsteps as a math teacher at McKinley Junior High School, Joanne chose to teach biology and chemistry at Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island. Later, she transitioned to a legal career, inspired by her father, and earned her law degree from Brooklyn Law School.

For over 26 years, Seminara contributed to her community as a member of Community Board 10, covering Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Fort Hamilton, and served as its chairperson from 2010 to 2013. She practiced law in New York and New Jersey for more than thirty years.
